The Ordnance
Survey Discovery Maps of Ireland are probably the best detailed maps
of Ireland that you can buy. These maps are to a scale of 1:50,000 - which
provides enough detail to see even the individual houses in rural areas.
These maps are great for walking or hill climbing, Cyclists will also
find them really useful - to find those off the beaten track places.
The maps are also great if you are touring by car. All classes of minor
roads and tracks are shown on these maps in great detail
If you want to dig a bit deeper into the heart of Ireland - then these
maps are for you
You will also need one larger scale road map that shows the major towns
and roads - to get you from one part of Ireland to another. These are
available too. West
But if you want to find out more about a specific county or parish - then
you really need one or more of these discovery maps.
Genealogy: These maps are also very good if you are trying to see the
area where your ancestors lived.
If you are searching for clues about village names or townlands - then
these maps are excellent. All the local townland names are shown.
