Donegal is perched on the north western corner of Ireland, with a stunning
coastline with sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and peninsulas. House prices
in Donegal are among the cheapest in Ireland.
The
fall in the value of sterling has completely destroyed the cross-border
market, where purchasers from the North had helped sustain a healthy market
in Donegal. Prices falls are accelerating, tipping past the 6.9 per cent
mark in the final quarter of 2008 alone. Average asking prices in Donegal
were around €221,000 in Jan 20009 - representing a near 18 per cent drop
since the height of the boom.
Estate agents have reported a 50 per cent drop in transactions for both
new and second-hand homes in the county.
Donegal covers an area of 1,876 square miles and is home to over 130,000
people. County Donegal has some of Ireland's most beautiful and unspoiled
landscape as well as excellent angling and salmon fishing and first class
golf.
